“Judging by the number of people inking their favourite films and characters on their bodies, there really are some super fans out there! It seems the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genres attract the most die-hard fans, or at least the adrenaline junkies.
The inked artwork we found when researching is pretty incredible, and anyone contemplating dedicating a tattoo to their favourite movie or character should check out Instagram for inspiration.”
Methodology:
To begin with, we collated a list of some of the most popular movies worldwide by using sources such as IMDB and Rolling Stone. We then found appropriate hashtags relating to each of the movies, which would allow us to search for tattoos associated with each film. For movie franchises or series, we used the franchise/series name in order to match the hashtag habits of Instagram users. We gathered the total number of Instagram posts under each hashtag, which helped us to discover which movies are most commonly chosen as tattoos, before ranking them in terms of popularity and volume. All data is correct as of 15th March 2023.
