Roblox Player Count Continues Rising, but Growth Rate Below 2020 and 2021 Levels
Initially released for PCs in 2006, Roblox became an instant hit drawing millions of players worldwide. Although the service has also branched out into other forms of online entertainment, like virtual concerts and fan meetups, games are still the beating heart of the platform.
In 2018, Roblox reported 13.7 million daily active users. However, two years later, the popularity of the free-to-play gaming platform exploded, driving the number of users to new highs. That year alone, Roblox gained 18 million new users, with their total number rising to 37.1 million. User growth continued surging in 2021, even after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
The company’s official data showed the number of daily active users hit 49.5 million at the end of 2021, a huge 12.4 million increase year-over-year. By the end of 2022, this figure jumped by another 17% to 58.8 million worldwide. Statistics show that most of this increase came from Europe and Asia-Pacific, the top two Roblox markets. Over 28% of all players reported in Q4 2022, or 16.6 million, were from Europe. The Asia-Pacific region had a 23% share, with 13.6 million Roblox players.
