12% of US Population Downloaded The McDonald’s App in 2022

When it comes to getting food on the go, McDonald’s is still the most popular choice in America, according to a recent study by Casinos En Ligne.

The study, which was conducted using data sourced from Apptopia, revealed that McDonald’s led the US with over 40 million downloads.

Starbucks was next on the list with just 13.7 million downloads, meaning that McDonalds was downloaded nearly 3x more than the next-highest food and drink app.

Dominos (10.8M), Taco Bell (10.4M) and Chick-Fil-A (9.8M) were among the companies with the most downloads.

To put McDonald’s dominance into perspective, approximately 12 percent of the US population downloaded the McDonald’s app in 2022. America also represented 31 percent of McDonald’s app downloads worldwide.

By taking full advantage of the move to digital, McDonald’s has managed to secure its spot atop the list of the most popular food and drink apps in America.

McDonald’s finished the year with a whopping 40 million app downloads, 194% more than the Starbucks app, which finished second with 13.7 million downloads.

The 40 million downloads also means that approximately 12 percent of the US population downloaded the McDonald’s app in 2022.

Dominos (10.8M), Taco Bell (10.4M) and Chick-Fil-A (9.8M) rounded out the top-5 food and drink companies with the most app downloads.

Overall, there were three burger joints, two coffee shops, two pizzerias, two sandwich shops, and one taco restaurant in the top-10.

McDonald’s Posts 4th-Best Month Ever In December 2022

Known for giving out exclusive offers and rewards, McDonald’s has leveraged its app to drive sales revenue and keep customers engaged.

According to data.ai, time spent in Food & Drink apps grew 65 percent year-over-year and the market is still growing at a rapid rate.

The Golden Arches took full advantage of the extra attention, finishing 2022 strong and posting its fourth-best month ever with 4.24 million new installs in December 2022.

Thanks to a mobile-only promotion, Panda Express exhibited the biggest month-over-month growth in December, adding 43.2 percent more installs than it did in November. Despite the success of the promotion, Panda Express still failed to crack the top-10 list.

Starbucks, Dominos, Chick-Fil-A, and Taco Bell rounded out the list of the top-5 most downloaded Food & Drink apps in December.

On a global scale, Food Delivery apps were among the most popular Food & Drink apps worldwide.

UberEats, DoorDash, and Grab were among the apps with the most downloads in the world.

Fast food giant McDonald’s led the way with $420M downloads in 2022, over 112 percent more than the number of downloads of the next-highest app (UberEats, 60M).

However, 8 of the 10 most downloaded food and drink apps worldwide were delivery apps.

Starbucks was the only other restaurant chain that was able to make it into the top-10 in worldwide downloads.

America Accounts For Over 31% of All McDonald’s App Downloads Worldwide

Americans seem to have a special love affair with the Golden Arches.

Nearly 12 percent of the US population downloaded the McDonald’s app in 2022.

As a result, McDonald’s increased its number of app downloads in the US from 24M in 2021 to 40M in 2022. McDonald’s led the way in terms of growth, increasing its number of users by 66.7 percent YoY, light years ahead of the industry average of 10.5 percent.

In the US, 40 million people downloaded the McDonald’s app last year, good for 31 percent of the company’s total app downloads worldwide.

It seems, for now, McDonald’s has gained a lion’s share of the food and beverage market in the US, especially when it comes to digital sales.
